Throughout 2025, the global community will mark the thirtieth anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women and adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995), and 10 years of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its Sustainable Development Goals. Testatment to this important year, the main focus of the sixty-ninth session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69) will be on the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BpfA). The review will include an assessment of current challenges that affect the implementation of the BPfA and the achievement of gender equality, as well as celebrate pathways towards the empowerment of women and girls.
The purpose of this event is twofold:
- By presenting cross-country longitudinal and mixed-methods research findings from the Gender and Adolescence Global Evidence (GAGE) programme, this event seeks to highlight the intersectional risks of violence that girls and young women continue to face and how these have evolved over the different stages of adolescence.
- In conversation with governments and practitioners, this event will showcase how policies across contexts are working to end violence against adolecent girls, and how multi stakeholder partnerships between governments, the UN and civil society are supporting and coordinating with community-led mechanisms to extend the reach and uptake of services.
The event will feature keynote speakers: Dr Ergoge Tesfaye, Minister, Ministry of Women and Social Affairs MoWSA, Ethiopia and Mohammed Meqdady, Secretary General, National Council for Family Affairs, Jordan.
Panelists include:
- Youth-led organization representative, Resource Centre for Women and Girls
- Kathleen Sherwin, Chief Strategy & Engagement Officer, Plan International
- Seleshi Tadesse, Technical Advisor, UNFPA
- Ms. Lindiwe Ngwenya, Programme Specialist EVAW Spotlight, UN Women and African Union
