On June 25th – 27th GAGE participated in the Girls Not Brides 2nd Global Meeting which took place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. GAGE organised a session entitled “The dynamics of child marriage in humanitarian settings: findings from Gaza, Jordan, Lebanon and South Sudan”. Speakers included Ms. Marianne Yayi, Gender and Child Protection Manager, Plan International; Ms. Dorcas Acen, Gender (GBV) and Protection Coordinator, CARE International South Sudan; Dr Bassam Abu Hamad, Director of Public Health Programmes, Al Quds University, Gaza, and Associate Regional Director for GAGE, Middle East; Ms Sara Alheiwidi, qualitative researcher, GAGE Jordan; and Ms Hiba Hamzi, youth activist – Malala Fund and Naba’a. Dr Nicola Jones, Director of Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence (GAGE) facilitated the session. Dr Nicola Jones also presented at another session, entitled “Finding and minding the gaps in research on child marriage” on the state of the evidence on child marriage change strategies, convened by Dr Meg Greene.
