Participatory research
Participatory research, best considered as an approach to research rather than a research method, is conducted with or by the people who participate, rather than on, about or to them. Since 2019, GAGE participatory research has allowed for the involvement of young people as active research participants and co-leaders in research agendas.
GAGE adopts interactive participatory tools, including youth-led participatory photography, to capture the ways in which diverse adolescent girls and boys, young men and women have navigated transitions from adolescence into early adulthood in the midst of intersecting crises. Through participatory research methods, GAGE pays particular attention to adolescent voice and agency, and aims to generate robust research evidence to inform policies and programmes and elicit voices of particylarly vulnerable and marginalized groups.
