Investing in girls’ education in the time of COVID-19

As we approach International Day of the Girl on October 11^th, we reflect not only on how harmful cultural practices prevent adolescent girls from continuing their education, but also on how this may be exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. This year’s theme is “my voice, our equal future” focusing on programs with innovative solutions to empower adolescent girls. One initiative that embodies this theme is the Adolescent Girls Program, which is being implemented by Bangladesh Ministry of Education in collaboration with the World Bank. It promotes school retention and overall welfare, empowerment, and agency of girls in Chittagong and Sylhet, Bangladesh.
