Nicola Jones is a Principal Research Fellow at ODI Global and directs the decade-long Gender and Adolescence: Global Evidence (GAGE) consortium (2016–2026), a multi-country longitudinal research programme following 20,000 adolescents across low- and middle-income countries in sub-Saharan Africa, the Middle East and South Asia. She holds a PhD in Political Science from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and has extensive experience leading large research consortia and delivering mixed-methods research and evaluations for organisations including UNICEF, United Nations Population Fund, World Health Organization and the World Bank. Nicola has published widely and serves on advisory groups focused on adolescent girls, gender equality and social policy .Nicola is a founding member and current Board member of the Adolescent Girls’ Investment Plan and is a Visiting Senior Fellow in the Department for International Development at the London School of Economics and Political Science.

  • Gender equality and adolescent well-being: Expertise in adolescence and childhood, gender equality, gender-based violence, child marriage and female genital mutilation.
  • Social policy and longitudinal research: Leads large-scale mixed-methods and longitudinal research on poverty, conflict, forced displacement, climate change and social protection across low- and middle-income countries.
  • Global policy and advisory leadership: Advises international organisations including UNICEF and WHO on adolescent girls’ well-being, gender equality and evidence-informed policy.
