GAGE Ethiopia Round 5 data collection included interviews with the “Core Respondent” (CR) adolescents, and with primary female caregivers of younger cohort adolescents still living at home. The primary survey instrument utilized for both in-person and phone-based interviews of CRs in all research sites other than South Gondar is entitled “GAGE Ethiopia Round 5 Survey, Core Respondent Module (a).” In South Gondar, data collection occurred in two waves, owing to an interruption shortly after phone-based surveying began there in January 2025. Data collection paused for a few months as the security situation in South Gondar was continually assessed, and was restarted in June 2025; we refer to this restart as “Wave 2” for South Gondar data collection.
The data collected through phone-based interviews in South Gondar during January 2025 utilizes the main CR Module (a) described previously. A slightly shortened version of the main survey was conducted during Wave 2. This shortened survey instrument is entitled “GAGE Ethiopia Round 5 Survey (Wave 2), Core Respondent Module (b).” Thus, in total, there are two versions of the Round 5 Core Respondent Module. Additionally, anthropometric data (height and weight) was collected for a subset of CR adolescents living in East Hararghe, Zone 5 (Afar), and Dire Dawa research sites. The survey instrument used to record this information is entitled “GAGE Ethiopia Round 5 Survey, Anthropometrics Module.” For younger cohort adolescents still living at home, an interview was conducted with their primary female caregiver. The survey instrument used for this interview is entitled “GAGE Ethiopia Round 5 Survey, Adult Female Module.”
