FGM & child marriage | pastoralist Ethiopia
Irish Aid is funding a multi-year programme aimed at fostering economic and social empowerment of women and girls in Ethiopia’s lowlands so as to eradicate harmful gender practices, including female genital mutilation and child marriage.
GAGE Ethiopia is the evaluation partner on this project and is carrying out a mixed methods longitudinal study with approximately two thousand households in pastoralist Afar and Somali regions.
Baseline data collection was in 2022, midline in 2024 and endline will be in 2024; there have also been two rounds of participatory data exploring the intersecting effects of climate shocks and conflict on gender norms.
